Mayor Tom Menino is a friend to Girl Scouts and an advocate for women’s rights. Yesterday, Ruth N. Bramson, CEO of Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts, traveled to Boston City Hall to be a part of history and sign the Boston Women’s Compact. The compact’s mission is to make Boston the premier place for working women in America, by closing the wage gap and removing the visible and invisible barriers to women’s advancement. Ruth is a member of the Mayor’s Women’s Workforce Council and has been collaborating with other women leaders in the area to create this important compact. When Mayor Menino addressed the crowd of supporters he declared 2013 the year of the women, and took a step in the right direction for a more equitable workforce where all talent is cultivated and valued.
As he prepares to step down, we thank Mayor Menino for his service and for the support he has shown Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts over the years.
This Thursday, November 7, we will honor Mayor Menino at the 22nd Annual Leading Women Awards Breakfast. Share why you think the mayor is a strong role model for our girls and others. Tweet at @GirlScoutsEMass and @mayortommenino using #rolemodelmenino, or post on our Facebook page.
