It’s been quite the girl empowering week on social media. In case you missed it Goldie Blox viral video turns tables on little-girl princess fantasy.
Also, researcher Rachel Simmons, discusses in Slate why selfies are good for girl empowerment. Simmons thinks selfies suggests something in picture form—I think I look [beautiful] [happy] [funny] do you think so? This is something a girl could never get away with saying for fear she comes off as conceited or arrogant. It puts the gaze of the camera squarely in a girl’s hands, and along with it, the power to influence the photo’s interpretation.
