At Girl Scouts, we love to celebrate the diverse cultures that comprise our membership. Hispanic Heritage Month, September 15 to October 15, is the perfect opportunity to take a closer look at Disney Channel’s new television series, Elena of Avalor, which “stars” the animation studio’s first Latina princess. In the series, Elena Castillo Flores saves her kingdom from an evil sorceress and must learn to rule as crown princess until she is old enough to be queen. She quickly discovers that her new leadership role requires compassion, resilience and collaboration (just like a Girl Scout!).
Elena’s enchanted kingdom ─ its architecture, traditions, food, music and customs ─ are inspired by diverse Latin cultures and folklore (check out this infographic to learn more).
The Elena of Avalor Leadership Guide, available in both English and Spanish, gives girls the opportunity to boost their everyday leadership skills and prepare them to create the future they imagine, just like Elena. With different sections based on grade level, lesson topics include self-awareness, confidence, goal-setting, empathy and more. Girl Scouts is proud to partner with Disney to inspire all girls to be leaders.
