We are excited to welcome 2017. Have you set any New Year’s resolutions? We have! Take a look at five of our goals for the year ahead.
1. Develop Leadership Skills
We are always looking for ways to develop leadership skills. That’s what Girl Scouting is all about, right? So, Seniors and Ambassadors, join us at the girl-led Lead Your Way Conference at Simmons College to learn how to make the college search easier, manage stress and prepare for your own version of career success.
2. Get Outdoors
Did you know that girls with more frequent outdoor experiences are more likely to seek challenges and are better at solving problems? Also, spending time in nature improves a girl’s concentration and creative reasoning. That’s why we’re determined to embrace New England winter by getting outside! Cadettes, Seniors and Ambassadors can register for Winter Vacation Camp and there are lots of outdoor programs for girls of all ages featured in our Ultimate Guide. We also offer some great member benefits for outdoor activities.
3. Learn a New Skill (or Two!)
In a recent GSUSA survey, 72% of girls said that Girl Scouts gave them the chance to build their skills or try new outdoor activities. Want in on the action? There are so many possibilities! Learn to rock climb, take a babysitter safety training course, learn computer programming and more at Girl Scouts Engineer Magic, try out scuba diving… the list goes on and on!
4. See a Play
Plays and musicals are fun for all ages. Later this month, Billy Elliot plays at the Wheelock Family Theatre, and Charlotte’s Web in April. The Theatre offers Girls Scouts a pre-show drama workshop for both plays. The whole family or our troop can get in on the fun with Girl Scout member benefits. This year, we connect you to discounted tickets to The Illusionists, Circus 1903, Annie, The King and I, and Neverland so check out the member benefits list online for details.
5. Plan an Epic Summer Adventure
Summer is the perfect time for a getaway, which means the planning starts now! Many GSEM camps offer exciting trip and travel programs. Backpacking through the mountains, soaking up the sun on Martha’s Vineyard, exploring every inch of amusement and water parks—it all sounds amazing!
2017 is going to be great! We can’t wait to see everything you accomplish with Girl Scouts!
