Mac’s Fire Circle Dedication

“A circle’s round, it has no end. That’s how long I want to be your friend.”

A familiar camp song to many may have gained a new meaning on June 24, 2022.

Eileen “Mac” McCaffrey, (1942- 2019), was a Girl Scout in every sense of the phrase. She started as a camper & youth member, before jumpstarting her camper career as a counselor, then as a volunteer, business manager, and assistant director to both day and resident camps at Wind In The Pines. It’s safe to say that Camp Wind in the Pines was one of Mac’s favorite places to be.

Mac’s Daughter, Kate “Lollipop/Cooky” McCafferey, has taken on the remarkable task of creating Mac’s Lifetime Friends’ Fund. The proceeds from this initiative will help keep Mac’s memory and spirit alive within her beloved camp community, as well as assist in the revitalization of the camp’s physical spaces for years to come. It was Mac’s belief that she passed onto her daughter that our Girl Scout camps can bring people together and have a lifelong impact.

Therefore, in late June, Mac’s Fire Circle was unveiled to the Camp Wind In The Pines community and brought to life through words from family and friends, lively camp songs, and of course—delicious s’mores.

Present for the new fire circle’s dedication ceremony were many friendly and familiar faces, including DeeDee “Scooter” Gaudette,  Ann “Gopher” Wollman, Marty “Keystone” O’Meara, Mike McCaffrey, Susan “Half-Pint” Carle, Pam “Squirt” TenEyck, Ann Daley, Mary Ann Daley, Debra Daley, Denise. Girl Scouts of all ages and active troops also attended the fire circle dedication, as a way of celebrating the official start of summer.

Our heartfelt thanks goes out to Kate “Lollipop/Cooky” McCaffrey, the staff of Camp Wind In The Pines for leading the group in song and supplying s’mores ingredients, and to Technites Landscape and Masonry in Norton, MA for their generous donation and building of the fire circle.
